LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) -- 257 soldiers from the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division Soldiers returned from Afghanistan after a year's deployment on Wednesday.Friends, family, and other servicemembers greeted them in a ceremony at Fort Knox.The soldiers had been providing security in Afghanistan's Khowst and Paktya provinces. They also helped educate and mentor the Afghan National Security Forces. They made more than 14,000 combat patrols and captured about 1,600 insurgents. 280 of those were identified as being in leadership positions.The soldiers also helped the Afghan government and its people establish communication channel between one another.Copyright 2012 WDRB News.
